PUBLISHERS: EDITING, COPY-EDITING AND TYPESETTING
Working with authors to create the best ms we possibly can is something I adore. I'm an innately curious person, with a pernickety, ordered side that makes me perfect for editing – my annoying level of attention to detail is great for broader developmental issues, and even better for the finer points of a copy-edit. I'm also quite nice, and easy to get on with, which helps when conveying big problems in a manuscript!
I have a background in literary fiction, short fiction and poetry, and creative non-fiction – working with contemporary authors like Tyler Keevil and Hannah Vincent, on series books and anthologies, and for seven years as the Editor (and seasoned copy-editor) of an international short story journal. Fifteen years ago, my career began as an editor and writer in the ad industry, which was the perfect start for learning how to achieve tone of voice in writing – making sensitively reworking syntax issues an absolute cinch.

Over the years, it's come to my attention how much time can be saved – and how much easier it is to stop errors creeping in – when the typesetter is the same person as the copy-editor.
Trained originally in graphic design and advertising, it's been a joy to combine my design skills with my publishing experience. Whether you'd like my combined service (just think, a single person to deal with the author, the proofreader and the editing all at once) or just typesetting, I'm happy to send over some sample layouts of published books for you to take a look (fiction, non-fiction and poetry available).
I'm also a slush-pile reader, and I love it! If you're looking for a helping hand to wade through open or agented submissions, do get in touch. I've been reading professionally for over seven years (and for thirty-odd years for fun).
